Questions about "Internet Explorer" settings

"What is a 'web browser' or a 'browser' ?"
These are one and the same thing. A browser is the software you use to view pages on the internet. You are using a "browser" right now to read and view the contents of this page. By far the most common browser used throughout the world is a Microsoft product called "Internet Explorer". The next most popular browser product is "Netscape Navigator". Another browser with some following is called "Opera".

You can easily check both the name and version number of your browser right now. Look at the Menu bar along the top of your screen and click "Help". A drop-down list will appear which contains an item which says "About [browser name]" and that will be the indication of what browser software you are using.

"My website has just been modified but I can't see the changes"
This is a very common and annoying occurrence. Basically what is happening is that you are being shown the old version of a page. The old page may have been stored in your computer's cache memory. Alternatively your Internet Service Provider (ISP) may be storing old pages to save bandwidth utilisation. If you use Internet Explorer as your browser this problem can usually be overcome quite easily. Note that you do NOT have to be actually connected to the internet in order to make the necessary changes. Please see below.

If your browser is Microsoft's "Internet Explorer" do this...

If possible print this page. It will make the following tasks easier to perform.

1. From Internet Explorer's top menu click "Tools" then click "Internet Options". This will bring up a tablet.

2. Look to the centre portion of the tablet under the sub-heading "Temporary Internet Files".

3. Click the "Delete Cookies" button and delete the cookies.

4. Now click the "Delete Files" button, put a tick in the little box and OK this deletion.

5. Click the "Settings" button, then click the radio button which indicates "Every visit to the page". Click OK.

6. Now lower your eyes to the next sub-heading on the tablet which says "History"

7. Change the number of days history to 7 days and click the "Clear History" button.

8. Finally, when all above jobs have been done, click the "Apply" button and close Internet Explorer.

9. Save any other applications which are running on your machine, then completely shut down your computer.

10. Wait one minute, then re-start your computer. After your computer has re-booted try accessing your website again. If you are still not seeing the latest version of any page go to the menu at the top of your screen and click "View" and then click "Refresh".

11. If all of the above fails to remedy your problem you may have to wait for some days to pass by until your Internet Service Provider flushes the old pages out of their system.  Better still, why not contact your ISP's Help Desk immediately because they may have their own special solution for curing your problem.
